I think this author tried really hard to build characters and a fantasy world that would hold up to a number of sequels. Unfortunately it's not a world that I find very interesting or believable. I could not connect with either of the main characters and struggled to maintain any semblance of interest in the plot of this very slow paced story that was about 100 pages too long. The one star above that required by Amazon reviews is for the author's effort only. I will not be continuing the series.

Seven Years Seven Series #1 Dannika Dark 9781491065624 Books Reviews
I read a lot of romance novels,at least three a week! But to be very truthful this was by far the best paranormal read in years. I can't wait to read Six Months! I loved all the guys and found that they were all sexy in their own way! Ms. Dark, you have become one of my favorite authors!!
I have to preface this by saying I love The Mageri Series by Dannika Dark and I was unsure if this new series would live up to my expectations. Luckily, it did! You don't have to read The Mageri Series to read this book, but I liked having some base knowledge of the Breed world.
The main characters/storyline follow the shifter Breed, which is a different take than The Mageri Series. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was drawn into this story. Read it in less than 24 hours-had a hard time putting it down. I loved how the author captures each character so well and I can't wait to see where this series goes.
I highly recommend it!
Loved this book. Being a Mageri fan I was a little concerned how this one would play out but I have to say not only did I like it but I LOVED IT! I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy a little paranormal, a little romance, a little love, a little family and a ton of action all packed into one book.
How have I not heard about this book before? This is everything I want a paranormal romance to be-its suspenseful, romantic, it has hot alpha males, and a huge supporting cast of characters that keep the plot moving. This is a very well written book. I am so glad someone recommended it to me! Read my full review at http//www.thebookdisciple.com
This book is different than a normal werewolf romance, mainly because the characters are called Shifters, and the world they belong to is wholly unique. I've read all of this author's works, and her world building, dialogue, how different her characters are (because she does have a lot of side characters), plus the romance, humor, fighting, and secrets that are revealed make this a great PNR. And, Lexi, our main girl, goes into heat, and having a hot guy like Austin take care of you in your hour of need is always a plus. Austin confessing his love will make you swoon, especially at the end as he gives Lexi one of the best gifts ever (and no that's not a dirty connotation).
Once again, Miss Dark wrote a complex and engaging story, wonderful world building (adding to my love of Mageri), and I can't wait for the next one. Dannika always has a way of throwing in some wonderful comparisons in her books, and a nice dose of humor (a good one at about 60% through). Every time Lexi went somewhere without Austin, I was on pins and needles expecting one or 2 of the secondary characters to jump out and get her. I guess I'm so used to that in the several books I've read lately, it was nice to see the big climax sneak up on me, especially since I was getting mad at Austin for not making Lexi his sooner. Another difference I liked (in hindsight, of course) because I wanted them to get together immediately, not almost at the end. The secondary characters were fleshed out well, and I'm curious to see who will be starring in the next ones, because I liked the small tidbits thrown out that had me wondering who was going to be a hero or love interest. I don't want to do any spoilers, but loved the twist with Maizy and how unique she is.
The only reason I am giving this book 3 instead of 2 stars, is because I did finish it. I don't know what that says about my intelligence. This book could have been awesome, alas it was not. It was often clumsy, the characters not well developed and the conversations very stiff. Right in the beginning where Austin just blurts out "I am a shifter", come ON! I do agree with many other reviewers that there really weren't any sparks between the main characters. The plot took an unreasonable amount of twists and turns. The parts where there needed to be more development, it goes too fast and then there are completely unimportant scenes that the author elaborated too much.
I see a lot of people gave this 5 stars and I don't know why. Even the sex scenes were extremely undeveloped, there was no energy between the characters. Their supposed attraction just didn't compute. In the end, I can't believe that all these 5 star reviews are friends of the author, so either I am missing something or I am expecting too much from a good smut read.
There is no reason for me to purchase any more books in this series, there are lots of great reads out there and as a mother of four I don't have any time to waste on mediocre ones.
