I am not sure where to begin with this book review. I read a lot of books and I don't usually write long reviews because I feel there is no need for me to rewrite the storyline or the synopsis for readers to read. However, this may turn out to be a pretty long review because there is so much to say about this book. I ABSOLUTELY 100% LOVED THIS BOOK. Bravo L.D. Davis!!!!!!

This is essentially a series containing three books, all available with this one download of Tethered - Book 1 Tethered, Book 2 Frayed and Book 3 Tied all for $4.99 (can't beat it). Once I started to read it I could not put it down, Unfortunately I had to stop reading for work and kids, lol but I ended up finishing it in a 24 hour period.

There are so many components to this book that everyone can relate to; friendship, family, struggles of growing up, unconditional love and longing, success, hardship, peer pressure, soul mates, drugs, alcohol, mental illness, suicide, joy, growing older, marriage, children, and so on and so on. The author did a phenomenal job at describing the lives in the story. The detail was written so that I felt as I was living life right along with them somehow worked into their story. I felt what they felt, saw what they saw and experienced what they experienced. I cried when they cried, laughed when they laughed and smiled when they smiled. There were no boring parts to skip over and every word written was necessary to the story.

One of the most interesting things that I enjoyed so about this book were the ethnicities of the two main characters; Emmett and Donya. Emmett is a Caucasian and Donya is African American but like most books this was not a main focus in the book. Their race did not have anything to do with how the story was written or play a roll in any part of the storyline. As with most books involving interracial relationships that becomes the focal point of the storyline but in this book it was not an issue nor was it large factor in the story. Bits and pieces of the story are what made me realize this fact. I loved how the writer wrote these two characters without the underlying issue of their ethnicities. 5+ stars for that factor alone.

The family aspect of this book was amazing. The unconditional love that Fred and Sam showed their biological children as well as Donya was truly heartwarming. Donya's biological parents had issues and my heart broke for her as I read her story. Throughout the book it was apparent that Fred and Sam loved Donya and it showed with the detail of the writing.

The friendships that were formed were written as friendships should be. They had their ups and downs but they were in the end to love an support one another no matter what they went through together. It was impressive to say the least.

Oh my, the love and longing between two soul mates (Emmett & Donya) in this book is of heartbreak, warmth, longing, desire, love, lust, distance, change...I felt their emotion, I felt their love, I felt their hurt and I felt their connection. I was so involved in the story that I actually became frustrated when things didn't go as I wanted them too and I spoke out loud the thoughts I had in my head as the story unfolded. (Actually talking to the book, lol)

Do yourself a favor and definitely read this book. It is by far the best book I've read so far this year and I said before I read a lot of books. I will definitely be reading the other works by this author as this was my first from L.D. Davis. DO NOT PASS THIS UP...READ THIS BOOK YOU WILL LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DID.

Tethered LD Davis 9781497470163 Books Reviews

It’s full of heartache and love. I’d be shocked if it doesn’t make you cry at some point! So if you are in the mood for such angst, this is a book that will do it for you. I actually read this book for the first time two years ago. Then this past year when I was in a bit of a book slump I decided to go back and reread some books that really stood out to me. Tethered was one of the books. It’s so hard to explain this book. You really have to go and read it and see for yourself. It’s one of the most angst filled books I’ve ever read but I love it. I had my issues with Donya and her selfishness. I can’t personally understand how you can love someone so much and walk away from them so many times. (Minor spoiler coming) I absolutely hated the fact that both of the main characters didn’t use protection with other people. To me that’s something you do with the person you really love. And neither one seemed to have a problem doing that with other people. That’s a personal opinion though. There were very frustrating moments when I just wanted to chuck my kindle but I still had a hard time putting this book down. The scene right before the wedding absolutely killed me. I don’t want to say too much more about it and give away anything major but gosh what a heartbreaker. But even with the terrible mistakes they both made I was very pleased with how everything ended up. Will they stay together or decide it’s easier to just remain apart? Read and find out!
They were destined to be with each other, no matter the road they traveled. Emmet Grayne and Donya Stewart claimed each other as kids. They always knew when the other was present without even looking. That strong bonded tether kept them in tune with each other. They could tell what the other was thinking and how the other felt.

Emma Grayne was Donya's best friend and Emmet's younger sister. Their parents Samantha and Frederick Grayne became Donya's surrogate parents and took care of her as though she were their own when her parents were in no shape to care for her.

She and Emmet decided to keep their relationship a secret because they felt that the family would not understand. They were rasie as siblings in the same house as kids. This couple went to hell and back. After Donya became a model at 16 years old and Emmet went off to college, he wanted to quit school so he could travel the world with her but Donya would not hear of that because she did not want him to resent her for his not reaching his potential as a lawyer. Emmet did not want her to quit modeling for the same reason. Being at a impasse in their relationship caused many hurt feelings to each other, causing them to marry other people but that strong tethered bond was still pulling them together. It just was not their time. Their timing was all wrong and as kids, they did not always make the right decisions. That tether may have been frayed and damaged but it still hummed with life, keeping them tied together.

This book was awesome. L.D. Davis did an excellent job in plotting the drama in this book. The characters grew and developed over the storyline. This story was about the angst in a coming of age story and dealing with the consequences of young love. It had my emotions running the gambit. My heart just broke for Emmet when he begged Donya not to marry Jerry. And I cried like a baby reading their vows to each other. Their destiny may have had them traveling different roads and those roads may have had bumps and branching along the way but those road always ended to where they were supposed to be. They got their second chance to get their HEA, this time it all felt right and that tether hummed with delight. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If I could give it 10 stars I would, it's just that well done in my opinion.
