I want to start writing this review by saying that I know the author, not that this fact should deter you from reading my review because Art Petty is one of the best sources on becoming a leader I have ever encountered.
How do I know?
I got to know Art well when he was a professor of mine for the first business class I attended in college. Art was and still is a popular professor because he made class fun with stories from his days as a scrappy entry level professional and his experience as an executive at a tech company. Bottom line, the man rose through the ranks and did well - you don't do that without knowing a thing or two about leadership. Some of my best career and leadership enlightenment comes from sitting down with Art and absorbing his mentoring over a latte.
When he told me he was writing this book based on some of the material that was on his blog at ArtPetty.com, I was thrilled, and I couldn't wait to see the results. I wasn't disappointed, Leadership Caffeine imparts many of the lessons Art teaches to students in his classes at DePaul and has echoes of the conversations that I have had with him over coffee. The book goes in depth on many valuable topics dealing with a bad boss, overcoming negative thoughts, building a high performance team, and standing out from the competition by being a game changer.
Art has had much success in his career and he's made mistakes as well, he relays them to the reader and gives examples of what can be learned from each situation. That in it of itself makes this book valuable because learning from an executive's experiences gives others a roadmap to becoming one.
Great leaders aren't born - they're made. Art Petty has achieved leadership success through hard work and an amazing drive, and now he passes on the lessons he learned in this book. Leadership Caffeine is a great start to learning the fundamental lessons of leadership and applying them to your career, definitely a must read for any professional.
I bought Leadership Caffene as a gift for a friend. It was recommended by an Executive Coach. It provides great insights and I'm sure it will be helpful to my friend.
Great book with very useful insights for any level manager or employee
I liked that the book can be a reference as well as a straight read. I read the book as a company leader development exercise and got something useful each week.
I'm not finished but haven't found a weak chapter yet. Some are very relevant to my current leadership experience. Some I already know and I suspect some are beyond me just yet. This will long have a place in my reference library.

Leadership Caffeine is a fantastic source for keeping leadership skills sharp! I have found this book to be an inspirational source for new ideas. It delivers a very clear and concise set of ideas that are 110% applicable to daily leadership challenges.
I'm a huge fan of this book and have found the 80+ leadership lessons to be segmented in a manner that allows me to easily and quickly gain value from the book. Excellent material for a book review within your team - each week the leadership team is able to review one of the lessons as a great catalyst for thought-provoking discussions.
