Awwww! I loved Sedgey! I didn't think too much of him after his role in the last book, but I quickly changed my tune. How can you not love a man who vacuums his bed before climbing in?! Lolol I'm still torn on whether or not I loved Kalish (partly it was her name that put me off). I don't know... I loved the plot; who doesn't love a good Indiana Jones Does Space plot?? It had tons more excitement than the last, which was a plus. Kalish just rubbed me the wrong way, and I don't know why... I would still recommend reading this, even if just for the treasure hunting aspect because it was thoroughly enjoyable.
I absolutely love everything written by Ruby Lionsdrake AKA Lindsay Buroker, as I keep saying over and over, she is a genius story teller, I can't get enough of her books, can't put them down and can't wait to read the next one. It was an excellent and very exciting read, as is everything she writes. You can't help but fall in love with all of her characters, they are all fun, entertaining, odd and quirky, but in a good way. All of her books, short stories and novellas are MUST reads!
I just love these stories! They are all unique and keep getting better and better. I am an old Linnea Sinclair fan and have all her books (yes, from before e-books!). I have been hoping to find another author who can fill her footsteps and I believe that I have found her in Ruby! These stories are totally entertaining and I seriously cannot get enough of them! I know that you will love Kalish and Sedge and their story. Character development - yes, great plot - yes, action - I mean ACTION - always new, different, something I haven't encountered before - yes, romance (sighing here) - yes!, humor - yes!! and on and on. The women are always so strong. I totally love the Mandrake crew and their interactions with each other. They have become friends and I enjoy meeting up with them again as secondary characters in the stories. ( I cannot wait until it is Striker's turn and he finally meets his match!) I know that I will be re-reading these stories. You won't go wrong reading any one of Ruby's stories as they are standalones (another great PLUS) but in my opinion reading them in order works best. And, anyway, I doubt you will only be able to read just one! Enjoy!
Finally a black female protagonist. Okay well she's mixed race but that's fine too. Some word choices in describing her hair kind of irritated me but I got over that quickly. After Lauren I find I like Kalish second. Thomlin was hilarious in his mannerisms but also kept the book romantic and cute. The plot is very action packed so I never got bored with reading. I did find a couple things questionable like why would they be thinking about sex at certain heartfelt moments. As an Asexual I don't know if that's normal but if I'm concerned about a family member I don't think I want my significant other thinking about whisking me off to their cabin... I appreciate that she writes romance stories featuring quirky and much more realistic (in my opinion) heroes. Great book overall but I really wish to see a story about Striker after getting one for Tick.
I discovered the Mandrake Company books about 3 weeks ago and read all of them in addition to the holidays and my birthday eating up the rest of my free time. I have been meaning to review this series for a while now and finally have time between books I believe.

First, I would just like to say that as a fan of Joss Whedon and Star Trek, I loved these books! There are elements of both throughout the whole series from the pink shuttle that is very Whedonist in its well-placed quirkiness to Gregor Thatcher who reminds one of Spock (keep in mind that I am a TNG fan through-and-through and only really know of The Original series through the Abrams films).

In The Ruins of Karzelek, the hero reminds one a bit of Simon Tam. It is one of those fast-paced books that makes you forget the time. The sex scene is at the appropriate place for the story and does not make you feel as if a sex scene was just thrown in there because romance books are supposed to have a sex scene nor does the pace of the story make you wonder, "When is the sex scene happening? Did I accidentally pick up a Christian romance?" Though warning, the sex scene is not at the beginning nor the middle but again the pace of the book makes you forget this.

Overall, I would put the whole series in the category of good scifi romance meaning that it is actually a romance and not a scifi novel nor erotica with the human girl being abducted from Earth by an alien [rolls eyes. I have nothing against erotica but am so sick of that storyline.]. It is a romance with scifi elements and a good one at that. Furthermore, what sets the Mandrake Company series apart from other good scifi romances is that each book can be read separately. There is not an over continuing arc from the first book to the next that builds and builds to this great battle between the oppressed and the oppressors. In this series, the company just moves along, and each book is an adventure that they encounter. It's like watching an episode of Firefly )
