Raises hand here...ummm there's something not quite right here. I picked up Secrets Exposed as part of the Tall, Dark, and Deadly Series: Books 0.5-2 box set. This was supposed to be about the Walker Brother. By all accounts I should be reading about the last brother, Blake, instead I'm reading about Royce's friend Mark. Throw into the mix that I read the book exactly as they were presented, in the exact order and Secrets Exposed should have been the first not the last as the timeline with Royce is all wrong. When I'm reading a series, unless it was intended by the author to have their reader to read a series out of order, I prefer to read in chronicle order. Thankfully reading out of order didn't have that much of an impact.

So of the three books in the boxset, Secrets Exposed was my favorite. There was a bit more action and intrigue than the other two books and it wasn't until almost the end before I figured out who the killer was. The dynamics between Lindsey and Mark were less caveman and more equal-ish. I'm adding the -ish because there were still some brutish actions from Mark, but Lindsey was just not having it. HAH! I loved her for that!

Quite a few twists are offered up to keep the excitement level up in this book. First off, you have Lindsey trying to convince Mark to come back and help her out with a case. Angry groveling, looking hot and a career-ending murder case jump-start this story. Follow it up with sparks between Lindsey and Mark and not just of the sexual kind. She's a smart woman and isn't going to let a man tell her to stay like a dog. Their head-butting made for good reads but what really got me going was the murder case...or shall I say cases. That's plural folks and I'll let you find out exactly how many I'm talking about. And the killer, good lucky guessing who it was because it was a mystery until the big reveal. Score a few points for author Lisa Renee Jones on this one.

Secrets Exposed works very well as a stand-alone and is worth the read.

Secrets Exposed a looselytied Tall Dark Deadly standalone edition by Lisa Renee Jones Romance eBooks Reviews

I just finished reading this story and loved it. Lisa has a way with her writing that just grabs ahold and pulls you in. I had a hard time putting this book down, wanting to find out what was going to happen next. About halfway through I thought I knew who the culprit was, but I was so wrong. There are not many authors that I've read that can pull this off as well as she does. This is another of her books that I've read that did not disappoint. I highly recommend this story to anyone who has not read anything written by Lisa yet, and if you have I'm sure you will enjoy another wonderful read.

Lindsey Paxton was the best defense attorney in New York until she defended a man accused of rape, which the day after he was found innocent was charged again, but this time it was for rape and murder. A woman who has always trusted her instincts, she no longer trusted herself to make the right decisions and blames herself for the woman's death. She leaves her career to become an agent for the FBI and moves to Washington. Now, years later she is home to run the firm due to her father's illness. The case she is expected to take over is a repeat of the case she feels she failed and she does not trust herself to give the case all she has and decides she doesn't want to do it, but there is only one person she wants to fill that position and then she can return home to her job and forget about all of it.

Mark Reeves is an attorney who is known as a cobra in the courtroom, but he is also an ex-partner in her father's law firm. Mark left on bad terms with Lindsey's father and he wants nothing to do with the firm, so Lindsey is wasting her breath trying to talk him into returning. Although he is very interested in getting better acquainted with Lindsey, something about her has him deciding to make her an offer she cannot refuse. He will help, but she has to stay and work the case with him as second chair.

Lindsey agrees with Mark's plans and they work on the case that makes her relive the past and trying to prevent the same mistakes from happening again. They are both strong willed individuals who like things to go their way, and as they work together sparks start to fly both in and out of the bedroom. There is a major development in this case that neither wants to think about, all the women that are being murdered have one thing in common--sorry you will have to read the story to find out what it is.

While Lindsey is trying to learn to trust in Mark and her instincts to clear an innocent man or set a killer free she is being stalked by someone from her past. Can Lindsey learn to rely on Mark and not push him away before she needs him the most? Can she find out the truth about the murders to prove her instincts are still her best defense strategies?
I loved this author’s Inside Out Series. I loved Denial, a spin-off of Inside Out. And I enjoyed Deep Under, a spin-off of the Tall, Dark and Deadly. So, I wanted to go back and start the Tall, Dark and Deadly series. I have to say, I was disappointed. Character name changes, is it Tom or Todd? The book could also benefit from another round of editing.

Lindsey was so annoying. I wanted to yell at her to grow up. I actually rolled my eyes at her more than once. Lindsey left practicing law after a man she got off free supposedly committed another crime. She turns to the FBI. She comes back when her father, who is also a lawyer, can’t run his practice because he is being treated for cancer.

Mark is a former partner in her father’s law firm. Lindsey contracts him to help her out. He is arrogant, and is instantly attracted to her.

On the positive side, I never saw the identity of the killer coming. Based on this book, not sure I want to read the rest of the Tall, Dark and Deadly books. I will stick with the series from this author I do love!
