Past My Defenses Taming the Pack Book 1 edition by Wendy Sparrow Romance eBooks

When I started reading Past My Defenses, I was trying to get a feel for the story. So, it took me a couple chapters to get into the groove of the story. Once I found it, I found it funny and entertaining. I mean Vanessa's allergies are what almost get her killed along with psycho on the loose. Poor Dane doesn't know how to handle his stubborn "mate". To top it off, both Dane and Vanessa don't really know how the other feels, so they feel like the other doesn't understand what the other is going through. Then you have the secondary characters that make Dane and Vanessa's life a bit more interesting.

You have Jordan who is the Alpha of the pack who had his eye on Vanessa, but is a little too late. So, he has to tout his authority. Travis he's flying under the radar, because he gives off the impress that he's a bit slow on the uptake. But in reality, he's pretty quick and witty when he lets his guard down. Christa Dane's younger sister. Her part is pretty minor, but she definitely leaves an impression.

Here's the bottom line: If you are looking something fun with some quirky characters with a dash of suspense you might want to give Past My Defenses are try. Some of those lines will have you busting a gut.

Favorite Lines (This Christa having dinner with Dane and Vanessa. Christa is sharing embarrassing stories:

"You know, Dane really likes wolves."Christa shot him a look--a look that promised hours of embarrassment. ...
"Does he?" Vanessa asked. "I had no idea."
"Yep. He used to watch all these nature documentaries. My mom worried he'd be too dorky to date."
Vanessa tilted her head and fought a smile. "And here he is--all grown up, and still interested in wolves."
He knew it was a mistake to let his sister and girlfriend together. This night was going to be playback for both of them.

Past My Defenses Taming the Pack Book 1 edition by Wendy Sparrow Romance eBooks Reviews

I really enjoyed this start to the series. It had the right mix of humour, romance and mystery for me.
Dane has the patience of a saint! I wanted to smack the heroine sometimes, which is one of the reasons I love Wendy Sparrow because her characters become real enough to elicit those kinds of feelings. Overall for a book that began as a joke on Twitter this is awesome and I can't wait for more.
I always love humor in a story. So when this story starts out with a wolf/shifting woman who is allergic to everything--especially the cat in the house of the man who saved her--I could really appreciate the humor in this. Still, I was very drawn into a budding attraction that I could tell would eventually blow up. Especially since the heroine/wolf/shifter is in heat. The whole story kept me turning pages and loving these two together. If you love paranormal with a twist of humor, check this one out.
I loved the characters in this. I'm not going to break down the plot because I'm sure other reviews and the description are enough for people. I found the characters endearingly annoying (Damn stubborn people!). The romance was hot and heavy from the start which is great but I felt a little frustrated that readers never saw it clearly be consummated. It was mostly innuendo and heavy petting. This is not the story to get to the erotica bits as much as I wish it was.

Yet, it still fulfilled my need for a suspenseful paranormal romance. I'm definitely buying the other books from the series when they are released.
What a fun, unusual twist on the shifter thing!
Dane is a park ranger guy who comes across an abandoned car, but is quickly warned off of the scene by the local police--so he goes home and finds a wolf who is dying of anaphylactic shock. As one does.
But then the wolf turns into a hot woman--with a red, runny nose, and falls in immediate lust. As one does.
There is Benadryl, murder, intrigue, and lost of romance. I highly recommend this one--no antihistamines required.
Well, it took a few pages to get into it, but then once I did it kept me up until the wee hours of the morning. Sparrow's best talents always lie in her interpersonal interactions. She could write a book about two slugs eating rotting leaves, and I would still think they were hilarious and well-written characters. Watch for more from this author.

Note So far, there is no such slug book so if I've just piqued your curiosity, it sucks to be you.

-----------------------
Later note After reading a lot of the other reviews on this book, I'm surprised that so many are lowering their star rating because they wanted more erotica. Shouldn't you be reading a harder romance genre if you want more naughty bits? I was under the impression that the Sweet Romance category didn't have those things intentionally. State in your review that you prefer a harder genre, but please rate the story by the genre it was intended to be.
This is a new author and new world to me. I have to say, I found it to be very cute. How can you not love a werewolf who is taken down by a house cat due to extreme allergies. She is allergic to everything under the sun; cats, pollen, even marshmallows. Evidently, marshmallow allergies are a thing, who know? I didn't.

This is a world where lycans are mated, so you have the instant love. In this case, our female is mates with a human. He finds her as a wolf, near comatose in the woods. She wakes up in a cage as a human, much to his surprise. Vanessa is a strong and has all the traits to be alpha female. Our hero is a park ranger.

Someone doesn't like this pairing and is trying to put a stop to it. There is quite the suspense story around this as not only is Vanessa attacked, but Dane is too. Werewolves are dying and there aren't many to begin wtih.

This is a cute story with some great suspense. I will say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this story. I thought it would be cute. I didn't realize that I would like the suspense as much as I did. I can't wait to see were this story goes next. According to the author's website, book two in this series is due out in the Fall. I will definitely be checking that out, plus looking at what else this author has available.
